Container City Cholula

Container City in Cholula, Mexico is a shopping and entertainment hub built entirely from recycled materials including a mass of colourful cargo containers.

Other repurposed materials also include bottle caps and plastic tubing in the sustainable project, designed by Gabriel Esper Caram and his partner.

Los Containers

Known locally as ‘los containers’, the container shopping mall precinct fills 50,000 sq feet (more than 4500 sq metres) and is a hub for visitors to the nearby pyramid as well as university students from UDLAP.

The cargo containers have been painted bold and bright colours providing a relaxed and festive feel, which is supported by outdoor bars and restaurants, as well as an eclectic mix of boutique shops and service businesses including a tattooist, dry cleaner and a bus stop.

Regular live music and events keep the open spaces vibrant and los containers a place to enjoy, morning, day, or very late into the evening.

Good news for those local to Melbourne, Australia, a similar project is planned as a market using a host of reclaimed and recycled materials. More to come as soon I can check it out!
